You didn't want to get home for Christmas did you?

No trains will run on South Western Railway routes on Saturday 22 December (you know, the day half of London wants to head home to families for Christmas).

The rail union RMT announced the bad tidings, citing South Western Railway's 'failure to engage in a serious talks process over a long-running guards' safety dispute.' ‎

RMT General Secretary, Mick Cash said:

The company are hell bent on opening up a loophole that would allow them to run services driver only at their discretion.

Recent figures have shown a shocking surge in violence on our railways across the festive season and it is frankly appalling that South Western Railway are looking for a green light to throw the guard off their trains as and when they see fit in the name of profit.

South Western has previously deplored such strike action as 'needless' and 'cynical'.

A Central line strike is also planned for 21-22 December.
