Halfway House

Halfway House

This pub was chosen for inclusion by the Londonist editorial team, having supped many a happy pint here.

The Halfway House is the first thing you see on exiting Earlsfield station, and well worth popping into. It presumably gets its name from being halfway along the ancient Garratt Lane between Wandsworth Town and Tooting.

Like so many pubs in the area, it's under the Young's banner and serves beers accordingly. A Winter Warmer slipped down very well on our most recent visit. The main bar is a plush affair, with cosy sofas and padded seats — not dissimilar to venues in the Geronimo chain. The HH does the whole mis-matched furniture thing to an excessive degree, with tables and chairs of all shapes and hues — but it kind of works. The back dining is a smarter offering with its fireplace and brass fittings — something akin to a Georgian dining room — with a conservatory beyond. There's also a heated beer terrace tucked round the back.
