Rose Pub & Kitchen

Rose Pub & Kitchen

This pub was editorially chosen for inclusion by Londonist.

Would a rose by any other name smell so sweet? This pub finally answers that old Shakespearean question. Until early 2015, it was called the Hobgoblin. It reportedly had to pay a licence to Marston's, owner of the Hobgoblin beer brand, to trade under that name. So now it's the Rose and, yes, perhaps it does smell a little sweeter. There's certainly a pronounced emphasis on food (evident from the full name of the bar, plus the pre-set dining area to the rear), and its attendant aromas. There's nevertheless a good pubby feel to the place. The real treasure of the Rose/Hobgoblin is the beer garden, which harbours enough space for 250 people, with big long tables for larger groups and a couple of sheltered areas in case of rain.

Nothing too exciting on the beer front, just a competent range of familiar ales. The food menu is varied, but the wood-fired pizza oven comes highly recommended. A smart upstairs room caters for private events or pub overspill.
