Royal Albert

Royal Albert

This pub was editorially chosen for inclusion by Londonist.

Much as the titular Consort, the Royal Albert is a good all-rounder. Like your craft ales? It has them in abundance, with a mix of US and more local options. Like sprawly-out sofas? Check. Want to sit in a slightly more formal dining area? It's here, crowned with a large skylight. Want to play a game of bar billiards? You can't... there's a golden cow sitting on the green baize. Not sure what that's all about.

Like the nearby Job Centre, this is part of the growing Antic chain of pubs. It's not decorated all shabby-chic like its brethren, though (well, apart from the bunting, oh, and the mirrors). It looks every inch the classic corner pub, right down to genuine Victorian etched windows. A detailed history of the venue, which dates from 1848, can be found here.

On Twitter as @TheRoyalAlbert. On Facebook. Quiz night is Monday.
