The Beehive

The Beehive

This pub was editorially chosen for inclusion by Londonist.

Finding this fine pub just off Tottenham High Road was a revelation.

This huge, grade II listed, 1920s pub reopened under new management in 2014 and has been given contemporary touches (odd bits of furniture, street art wall, funky young staff) while remaining family friendly (with outside space to play in and a bouncy castle on sunny weekends) and grown up friendly (an over 18s only bar and a games room for pool). It retains loads of interesting original features including fireplaces, glazed doors and mock Tudor effects.

It's a local-minded pub, stocking a good selection of Tottenham's Redemption Brewery drinks on tap including Pale Ale, Hopspur, Urban Dusk and Fellowship Porter when we visited, as well as Beavertown's Neck Oil and Black Betty. Tottenham Art Classes put on life drawing classes here, local artists are invited to get involved with the street art wall out back and the pub runs community film screenings, like The Big Lebowski (free White Russian if you turn up in a dressing gown), live music nights and a pub quiz.

But back to the booze. The Beehive won CAMRA North London pub of the season Winter 2014/15. In addition to Redemption, expect regulars from Five Points, Lagunitas IPA, Sam Adams and Dogfish DNA plus coming soon, Hackney Brewery, East London Brewery, Dark Star, Sambrooks and many more.

Diner style food, sandwiches and roasts (vegetarians won't miss out) are provided by Phileas Hogg, who you may know from Kentish Town's Abbey Tavern.

All this and they still manage to cater for match day crowds and screen live sport.
