The Bishop

The Bishop

This pub was voted as one of the best in Dulwich by Londonist readers.

The ubiquitous Metropolitan Pub Company owns a pair of East Dulwich pubs, almost within sight of one another, and hilariously named The Actress and The Bishop. Both have similar stylings, with wooden floors, white ceilings and dark green walls, but there are differences, too. The Bish feels somehow more homely, with the tables slightly closer together and, thanks to a recent paint job, somewhat darker in tone. The beer's fine, with three well selected draughts including tipples from the Bishop's sister brewpub, The Florence in nearby Herne Hill. It's a more spacious pub than first appears, stretching round a corner to the back, where a small beer garden can also be found. The best seats in the house are the comfy benches around the bay windows. The food menu is more extensive than most, but there's no 'gastropub' vibe here — just a strong all-round boozer. Oh, and it has a super-cute pub dog called Clarence.
