As we stood outside The Red Cow, supping our pint, a local caught us looking at the unusual pub sign. "Rusky spies used to drink here during the cold war," he informed us. "That's why the cow has a hammer and sickle on its arse." We always believe what The Man Down The Pub tells us, so this must be the truth.
This Young's pub, which appears to have a tree growing out of it, was pleasantly bustling with activity on a Saturday evening. All bar stools and tables are taken, so we enjoyed our pint of Young's outside in a small seating area too exposed to be deemed a beer garden.
All in all, a very decent local pub, with a few rooms of accommodation upstairs for those who really can't be bothered to go home. We'll be back.
