White Hart

White Hart

This pub was voted the best in Crystal Palace by Londonist readers.

The White Hart came in for a lot of love in our reader poll. "The best all-round package," thought one reader. "Lovely, friendly, trendy staff (without being hipster-knobheads)," opined another. The only stated downside was that "they need some more comfy chairs".

Situated on the Crystal Palace triangle, a peanut's throw from The Alma, the White Hart had a real funtime feel on our visit. The main bar was pretty busy on a mid-afternoon Saturday, with plenty of energy and buzz. Despite the crowds, service was quick. There are many, many keg options here, and only four cask, but we opted for a delicious pint of Wild Beer's cleverly named Bibble (clever, because everyone loves the quirky oddness of ordering a pint of bibble).

Although this place has a good rep for food, drinkers are by no means alienated. A back area with comfy sofas and low tables is perfect for a relaxing chat away from the foodies. Meanwhile a serviceable beer garden provides a bit of space in warmer weather, but only enough for 30 people. Throughout the pub, you'll find numerous depictions of a white hart, the symbol of Richard II. He never drank here, but the pub of his sigil is crowned king of Crystal Palace by Londonist readers.
